James M. Derham: Deputy Chief of Mission

James M. Derham arrived at Embassy Lisbon in September and will serve as Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) through the NATO Summit in November 2010.

Since retiring from the U.S. Foreign Service in 2008, Mr. Derham has worked for the State Department in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Ciudad Juarez, Mexico; and as a liaison officer on consular matters to the U.S. Senate. In 2009-2010, he was Chief of Party in Pristina for the USAID project to assist the Kosovo Foreign Ministry.

During his Foreign Service career, Mr. Derham served as Ambassador to Guatemala, DCM in Mexico City, and DCM and Chargé d’Affaires in Brasilia.
