Procedures to Register Privately-Owned Weapons (POWs)

Registration of firearms belonging to personnel living on the installation and registration of firearms by personnel who bring a firearm onto the installation for the purpose of engaging in authorized activities such as hunting, dog training activities, or marksmanship events are required to register their weapons. Personnel must complete the on-post registration form, Fort Knox Form 2759-E. All forms must be completed and turned in to Weapons Registration Office, Physical Security Section Directorate of Emergency Services (DES) in Building 298.

Procedures:

  1. Obtain and fill out Fort Knox Form 2759-Egarrison/dhr/asd/forms.asp

  2. Submit four (4) copies of the Fort Knox Form and one (1) copy of the applicant’s driver's license to the Weapons Registration Office at Building 298 Monday-Friday 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, or drop off the forms at the MP Desk in Building 298. Applicants will be notified when their weapon(s) is/are registered and their permit is ready to be picked up.

  3. Applicants unable to come to Fort Knox for registration can register their firearms via postal mail. Applicants must send a copy of their documents to the address listed below. Applicants must include a postal mailing address to receive their permit and documents by mail.

  5. Documentation: A form documenting firearms registration will be provided to the owner (COPS Permit) valid for three years. Individuals must have the registration document whenever the firearm is transported on the installation. Personnel engaging in authorized activities on the installation are required to present the registration permit to range/hunt control officials prior to obtaining authorization to conduct activities utilizing a firearm.

  6. De-registration:  Weapons can be de-registered by submitting, in person, identification and the original registration permit to the Weapons Registration Office during operating hours Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Weapons can also be de-registered by mailing a photo copy of the driver’s license and the original weapons permit of the owner to the Weapons Registration Office. Upon de-registration, all information pertaining to the registration of applicant’s weapon(s) will be removed from the Centralized Operations Police Suite (COPS) weapons registration module database.
