Babil PRT Expands Successful Criminal Forensics Training to Include Reporters

The Babil Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) held a seminar for reporters on the use of forensic evidence in the prosecution of criminals.  The on-the record event for more than a dozen Babil-based journalists included a visit to the crime lab at Forward Operating Base Kalsu, which is used to train Iraqi technicians who work at the Hillah crime lab, one of five in the country.

The reporters learned how physical evidence is used in the United States, how Iraqi police are trained in the use of physical evidence to prosecute criminals, and the role of journalists in reporting on criminal matters.  The orientation is similar to that provided to judges, prosecutors and police by the Babil PRT Rule of Law Team.

Babil PRT expects the cross training to enhance government transparency by the provincial government and encourage crime reporting by journalists.
