Legislation governing noise control, enacted by Congress in 1972 and amended in 1978. This Act (42 USC 4901-4918) initially was implemented through regulations issued by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the early 1980s; however, the primary responsibility for regulating noise has been delegated to state and local governments. Noise control regulations promulgated by the EPA are available at 40 CFR 201-211.
