PHMSA Seeks Comment on Proposal to Collect Information on Use of Excess Flow Valves
May 15, 2012

PHMSA seeks public comment on a proposed online survey of gas pipeline operators that will provide data needed to explore expanding the use of excess flow valves; this follows an advanced notice of proposed rulemaking based on NTSB's recommendation to install EFVs in all new and renewed gas service lines. EFVs limit the impact of natural gas pipeline leaks or explosions. The notice also addresses requirements in the Pipeline Safety, Regulatory Certainty and Job Creation Act of 2011. PHMSA invites comments on or before July 16, 2012; please identify the docket number, PHMSA-2012-0086, at the beginning of comments.
