About the Program

Research and Development at Jesse Brown is comprised of four services:

Biomedical Laboratory Research and  Development (BLR&D) conducts research that explores basic biological or physiological principles. For example, it includes investigations of tissues, blood or other biologic specimens from humans. Clinical Science Research and Development (CSR&D) conducts research that focuses on intact human beings as the unit of examination. Examples include interventional and effectiveness studies, clinical, epidemiological and technological studies. CSR&D  was created through a reorganization of the former Medical  Research Service and Cooperative Studies Program. The Health Services Research and Development Service (HSR&D) pursues research at the interface of health care systems, patients and health care outcomes. HSR&D underscores  all aspects of VA health care; specifically quality, access, patient outcomes and health care costs. The Rehabilitation Research and Development (Rehab R&D) Service is an intramural program for improving the quality of life of impaired and disabled veterans. Rehab R&D is dedicated to the well-being of America's veterans through a full spectrum of research: from approved rehabilitation research projects, through evaluation and technology transfer to final clinical application. The veterans we serve not only help us define our research goals,  but participate in research efforts, and often test the outcomes and ultimate usefulness of research results in their daily lives. Information regarding funding opportunities and career development, as well as detailed information about the VA Research Program can be found at www.research.va.gov.  The R&D staff  at Jesse Brown would be more than happy to discuss the funding process.  We can be reached at 312-569-6166, or see the detailed staff directory
