February 7: Ambassador Murphy visits USA Pavilion at the 21th FRUIT LOGISTICA in Berlin
Ambassador Philip D. Murphy visited the USA Pavilion at the 21th annual FRUIT LOGISTICA trade show in Berlin. FRUIT LOGISTICA is the world’s largest trade show for fruits and vegetables. Over the course of three days, the show attracted over 58,000 trade visitor from 130 countries. Nearly 30 companies from the United States exhibited their products and services at the USA Pavilion, ranging from apples, pears, dates, pecan nuts, pistachios, sweet potatoes, and dried fruits to elastic tags and RFID solutions for temperature tracking along the cold chain to reduce spoilage.
February 6-8: State Department Special Advisor for International Disability Rights Judith E. Heumann visits Berlin
State Department Special Advisor for International Disability Rights Judith E. Heumann was invited to speak at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) for the launch of the ministry’s Action Plan for the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities. Special Advisor Heumann presented a positive outlook on what has been achieved so far in the United States, but also stressed the need for continued bilateral and multilateral cooperation to advance disability-inclusive diplomacy as a global policy priority. During her four-day visit to Germany, Special Advisor Heumann met with government officials and civil society groups to share U.S. experience in promoting and protecting the rights of persons with disabilities, explore opportunities for collaboration, and promote international implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CPRD).
During the 3 day program Special Advisor Heumann also visited the Berliner Zentrum fuer Selbstbestimmtes Leben Behinderter Menschen BZSL e.V., the Interessenvertretung Selbstbestimmt Leben in Deutschland e.V. (ISL), and the Deutscher Behindertenrat.
