Uranium Density
Uranium is very dense. At about 19 grams per cubic centimeter, it is 1.6 times more dense than lead. Density increases weight. For example, while a gallon of milk weighs about 8 pounds, a gallon container of uranium would weigh about 150 pounds.

Depleted UF6 Conversion Facility EISs


Two site-specific EISs have been prepared to assess potential impacts of building and operating depleted UF6 conversion facilities at the Paducah and Portsmouth sites.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has prepared two site-specific Environmental Impact Statements (EISs) for the construction, operation, and decontamination and decommissioning of depleted uranium hexafluoride (DUF6) conversion facilities at the Paducah, Kentucky, and Portsmouth, Ohio sites.

The Notice of Availability for the two final EISs will be published in the Federal Register by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on June 18, 2004.

The EISs are available on this web site for downloading or online browsing, under Documents. You may also order a CD-ROM or paper copy of the Depleted UF6 Conversion Facility EISs by submitting a Final EIS Document Request Form.
