Application Instructions and Necessary Documents
 

All Non-Immigrant Visa Applicants must fill out their application forms entirely online using the DS-160 form (http://ceac.state.gov/genniv/). After completing the form, print out the confirmation page (which contains a barcode) and bring only that page to the interview along with your passport and application fee. 

To apply for a non-immigrant visa to the United States you need the following:

  • Passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay in the United States (e.g. if you plan to go to the United States for 1 month in March, your passport must be valid at least through October).
  • Form DS-160 – Completed fully online. You will print out your confirmation page and bring this one sheet to the interview.
  • Photograph - You must upload your digital photograph taken in accordance with the following requirements: 
    • If a new digital image is taken, it must meet the following specifications: the image must be in the Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) format; The maximum image file size is 240 kilobytes (240 KB); the resolution should be 600 pixels high by 600 pixels wide; the color depth is 24-bit color. 
    • Scanning a submitted photograph. Before a photographic print is scanned, it must meet the compositional specifications listed above. If the photographic print meets the print color and compositional specifications, scan the print using the following specifications:  Scanned at a resolution of 150 dots per inch (dpi); (JPEG) format; the maximum image file size is 240 kilobytes (240 KB); the image resolution should be 600 by 600 pixels; 24-bit color depth 
    • If you were unsuccessful in uploading a photograph, please bring one recent 2"×2" (5x5cm) photograph of you. The photo cannot be more than six months old and must resemble your current appearance. The photo should be in color, with a white background. You should remove any glasses or head coverings, apart from those worn for religious reasons.

Visa Processing Fee

  • All applicants must pay non-refundable Visa Processing Fee: $160.00 (for all non petition based visas), $190.00 (for all petition based visas)
  • The fee should be paid in cash, in US dollars, at the window when you submit your documents

Supporting Documentation:

  • Evidence of the purpose of your trip;  
  • Evidence of ties to your home country, which will compel you to return home after a brief stay in the United States;
  • Evidence of a permanent residence outside the United States;
  • Evidence of your intent to depart the U.S. at the end of your trip; 
  • Evidence of your personal financial situation, such as a letter verifying your employment; 
  • Evidence of arrangements made to cover the costs of the trip or convincing evidence of a sponsor, should you not have sufficient funds;

Depending on which category of visa you are requesting, the required documentation will vary. Please refer to the Visa Category Chart for detailed information regarding the documentation requirements. Please note that there are no supporting documents that guarantee the issuance of a visa.

NOTE: Documents do not need to be translated into English or notarized. The Consular Section can consider supporting documents written in Turkmen or Russian.
