U.S. Embassy in Helsinki Celebrates the 231st Independence Day of the United States

July 4, 2007

Ambassador Marilyn Ware hosted approximately 1,400 guests at this year's Independence Day celebration, held at Finlandia Hall in downtown Helsinki on July 4. The building by Finland's world-renowned architect Alvar Aalto was chosen to house the event to allow Ambassador Ware to reach out to hundreds of Finns who have extended their hospitality and friendship to her and the US Mission at various events throughout the year. In her remarks, Ambassador Ware noted: “My fellow Americans and I, here and in the United States, value Finland’s partnership with our country – this longstanding friendship that has brought benefits of strong trade and cultural ties to both nations.” The guest list included Finland's political and business leaders, academicians and artists as well as representatives of the media, U.S.-Finnish friendship societies, youth organizations and NGOs.
