• Warning: The Embassy has recently learned of visa scams being perpetrated against Hungarian citizens interested in working as au pairs in the United States. Please be advised that applicants will never have to pay “processing fees” to the Embassy through Western Union.  In Hungary, visa fees are collected only at MKB bank or at the Embassy. Currently, the U.S. Department of State has authorized only thirteen organizations to bring au pairs to the United States. What is a Non-Immigrant Visa?

Non-immigrant visas are for citizens of other countries coming to the United States temporarily. This visa allows you to request permission from an immigration inspector to enter the United States. It does not guarantee entry into the United States.  

Who Needs a Non-Immigrant Visa?

A non-immigrant visa is required by anyone seeking temporary admission into the United States for tourism, business, work or study. Hungarian citizens and citizens of other countries that participate in the Visa Waiver Program are eligible to travel without a visa if they meet certain requirements.   Appointments can only be made by calling the following telephone numbers:
  -- From Hungary: 06-90-603-703 (weekdays 8:00 a.m.-06:00 p.m.; each call costs HUF 400 + VAT/minute).  This telephone number is only available inside Hungary, from landline phones and from all cellular networks (Vodafone, Telenor and T-Mobile). There is no access to it from telephone booths.
  -- From the United States:  +1-703-439-2314; from 8:00 a.m. to 06:00 p.m. CET. The cost is USD 18/call. Payment is possible via Visa or Mastercard.
  -- If you would like to schedule an appointment from a third country, you may need to ask a relative, a friend or a business partner in Hungary or in the U.S. to make the call for you.
