John L. Nau, III, Chairman of the ACHP, received the Greater
Houston Preservation Alliance's Good Brick President's Award in January
for his work as chairman of the Texas Historical Commission and the ACHP.
The awards are given annually by the Alliance to recognize local contributions
to the preservation, restoration, and enhancement of Houston's architectural
and cultural heritage. Bernadette Castro, Vice Chair of ACHP, was honored in January by The History Channel with the Theodore Roosevelt Medal for Conservation, which commemorates former President Roosevelts commitment to conservation and environmental issues, particularly in New York State. The Roosevelt family and the History Channel selected Castro for her dedication to serving the people of New York and working to preserve the New York State Park system as Commissioner of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. Also in January, ACHP member Emily Summers and her family received the Preservation Achievement Award for Residential Restoration/Rehabilitation, 2003. Bestowed by Preservation Dallas, the award recognizes the Summers' meticulous restoration of their exceptional mid-century residence.
