Loansome Doc® Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy

Loansome Doc, an article requesting system, is provided as a service to healthcare professionals and libraries by the National Library of Medicine. Loansome Doc users are served by members of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, whose mission is to provide equal access to biomedical information to all U.S. health professionals in order to advance the progress of medicine and to improve the public health. The NN/LM is also dedicated to improving the public's access to information to enable them to make informed decisions about their health.

The National Library of Medicine stores all Loansome Doc transactions made on the system for two years. This data is made available to the individual libraries receiving their patrons' requests through the DOCLINE interface and system-supplied reports. NLM uses the data for analysis of national and international trends in document delivery.

When NLM receives an inquiry via e-mail, the question and the e-mail address are stored so that we can respond electronically. Unless otherwise required by statute, we do not identify publicly who sends questions or comments to NLM.

A "cookie" is information sent by a web site server (e.g. DOCLINE) to your computer while you are connected to that site. DOCLINE's cookies are information about your interactions that may be needed later for the system to perform a function. As the user moves from page to page in Loansome Doc, cookies allow his/her own specific customer record, request history, and current transaction records to be retrieved. Any cookies placed by DOCLINE will be deleted from the computer upon exiting the browser.
