    A year-long corporate leadership development program to develop high-performing leaders and foster lasting relationships among them. Open to VA employees from GS13 to GS15 (or title 38 equivalent). The application season for LVA 2012 is now closed. Thank you for your interest.
  • Mentor Certification Program (GS-12 & Above)

    Become a mentor!  VALU is searching for experienced leaders to make a difference through mentoring.  For centuries, mentors have offered advice and wisdom at to help people through personal and professional development.

    Mentoring is one way that VA employees demonstrate their commitment to the growth of individuals and to a high-performance workforce dedicated to serving Veterans and their families.  ADVANCE is offering this mentor certification program for those who wish to serve as mentors in VA leadership development programs and/or enhance their overall leadership effectiveness in developing others. 

    Who should apply?
    All employees GS-12 and above who would like to become a mentor.

    What do I have to do?
    Attend a 2-day training called Mentor-the-Mentor. VALU sponsors this training. The hours earned are the core requirement of Apprentice Level VA Mentor Certification. If you have already gone through the VHA Mentor Certification Process, this training is optional and is available only as space permits.

    How do I benefit?
    When you commit your time and energy to learning how to help other people grow, you will discovery more about yourself and enjoy personal growth and fulfillment of your own.

    Mentor Certification

    VALU is in the process of redesigning the Mentor Certification Program to develop a robust VA Enterprise-Wide Mentoring Program. Please check back on the VALU website for future updates.

     

  • Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program (SESCDP)

    OPM-certified program designed to increase the pool of qualified candidates for the Senior Executive Service (SES).
  • Skillsoft Courses

  • The Institute for Management Excellence (TIME)

    For supervisors and managers with at least 3 years of supervisory experience at VA. Intermediate level training. Develop skills to bring about VA’s mission, especially in times of budget cuts. Learn to use the VA competency model. Produce greater value for Veterans and general public.

    HOW TO APPLY
    All applications must be submitted electronically to Sabrina Clark at Sabrina.clark@va.gov and submitted NO LATER THAN July 18, 2012. NO EXCEPTIONS

    1. Open the PDF application.
    2. The application cannot be saved. We recommend that you draft your answers in MS Word, then copy and paste into the PDF.
    3. Print your completed application. Scan into an electronic file. Send to your supervisor for endorsement.
    4. Ask your supervisor to attach a separate word document, or handwrite the endorsement.
    5. Sign and date your application. Attach the supervisor endorsement if applicable, then email to Sabrina.Clark@va.gov

    HOW SELECTION WORKS

    1. All applications will be reviewed by VALU team members, TIME faculty, and Brookings Executive Education officials.
    2. A list of ranked candidates will be sent to each Administration or staff office.
    3. The final roster will be determined. Candidates will be notified no later than Aug 6, 2012.
    4. Travel instructions and program logistics will be sent directly to those selected.
