Gun violence has reached epidemic proportions in our neighborhoods. From Colorado to Kentucky to Washington, DC, communities and families are being torn apart by this plague. This Community 2020 forum, Waging Peace In Our Communities: Overcoming Gun Violence will focus on how individuals, organizations and government officials can work together to reduce violence, take guns out of the hands of criminals and children, and build more peaceful and safe communities. The featured speakers -- U.S. Representative Carolyn McCarthy and Mr. Tom Mauser -- will share their personal and professional dedication to reducing gun violence in American society. The event will be held at HUD Headquarters, 451 7th Street, SW, Washington, D.C. Reservations are required. RSVP by calling 202-708-5029 or 800-647-4963 by close of business on Monday, May 8. HUD’s Community 2020 series brings together dynamic leaders to explore the future of America's communities and regions: where they are headed, and what they will be like in the next 25 years and beyond. The seminars focus on tough issues facing neighborhoods and families today and how they can become better prepared to meet the challenges of tomorrow. This is the ninth Community 2020 seminar. Previous discussions have featured Jobs and the Economy; Race; Fair Housing; Public Safety; Education; Homelessness; Appalachia; and Communities Across the Americas.
