Travel to the U.S. with a Visa

Transit Visas

Passengers in transit through the United States need valid transit C-1 visas unless they are eligible for travel under the Visa Waiver Program.  Travelers must apply and qualify for transit visas in the same way you would for any other non-immigrant visa.

NOTE: Travelers are advised not to book a flight that transits the United States until:

  1. You have determined you qualify for travel under The Visa Waiver Program and have received an ESTA authorization.
  2. Your C-1 transit visa has been approved and received.
It is the responsibility of the traveler to ensure that he or she is correctly documented for travel. Failure to obtain a visa before traveling may result in you being denied boarding by the airline.

Special UN Transit Visas

People in transit to the United Nations Headquarters District under Section 11.(3), (4), or (5) of the Headquarters Agreement with the United Nations.

Special Transit Visas for Foreign Government Officials

Foreign government officials, members of immediate family, attendant, servant, or personal employee in transit.
