The Public Affairs Section at U.S. Embassy Algiers serves as the public diplomacy arm of the Embassy. The section helps build dialogue and mutual understanding between Americans and Algerians through its Press and Information and Cultural Affairs offices. It explains and advocates U.S. policies, promotes American culture, society and values, and facilitates academic and citizen exchanges between Algeria and the United States.
Largely cut off from the outside world while combating domestic terrorism and Islamic extremism at home during the 1990s, Algeria is a dynamic and youthful society that is actively reengaging the international community. The United States and Algeria have a new and ever improving relationship, based upon shared values and goals. Fundamental to this shared endeavor is creating a direct dialogue between our two peoples, building a foundation for mutual-understanding, and educating our two societies about the other -- one person at a time.
