Message from U.S. Ambassador George Krol on Independence Day

On behalf of the embassy and people of the United States of America, I would like to extend sincere congratulations to the people of Uzbekistan as you celebrate 21 years as a sovereign, independent state.

Over the past 21 years Uzbekistan has made great strides in sustaining its independence and development as a sovereign state.  During these years the United States and Uzbekistan have built a strong relationship based on mutual interests and respect.

During the recent round of Annual Bilateral Consultations in Tashkent our governments discussed ways to expand our engagement in the fields of science, agriculture, educational exchanges, trade, security and political cooperation and human rights.  The United States will always be a firm partner to Uzbekistan encouraging and facilitating its further development toward a free, market based, democratic society. 

Let me take this occasion to wish all the people of Uzbekistan continued peace, good health, and prosperity.
