Program Background
The John J. Pisano Travel Grants are administered through the Office of NIH History for the purpose of encouraging historical research relating to the NIH intramural programs. The grants are named in honor of Dr. John J. Pisano (1929-1985), a distinguished biochemist and former chief of the Section on Physiological Chemistry, Laboratory of Chemistry, National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. The program is funded by the John J. Pisano Memorial Fund of the Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences, Inc., a non federal organization associated with the NIH. SIZE AND FREQUENCY OF AWARDS
One or two grants each year are expected to be available at the level of $1,500 for United States residents and $2,000 for recipients who reside outside the United States . This will be a lump sum award. Recipients are responsible for making all arrangements for travel to and accommodations in Bethesda . There are no additional funds for expenses.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Applicants must submit to history@nih.gov (1) a curriculum vitae and (2) a description of the proposed project, not to exceed 1500 words, excluding references, explaining the research and what aspect of it will be assisted by the ability to travel to the NIH in Bethesda , Maryland . Applicants must also arrange to have submitted one supporting letter from a referee qualified to comment on the scholarly merit of the proposal. Letters of recommendation may initially be sent by email or by fax (to 301.402.1434) if an original copy follows by mail. - By regular or express mail
