What is the JDTC Virtual Campus?
The JDTC's Virtual Campus provides distance learning opportunities through a variety of methods. Regardless of your location, access to the SIPRNET is your key to unlocking the JDTC training library. If you're the type of person who learns best by working through the material yourself, we offer 15 self-paced training courses. If you would rather interact with instructors and classmates, but your travel time is limited, sign up for an online facilitated training course.

What is online facilitated training?
Online facilitated training is identical to the method used for most universities across the country where students enroll in a course and interact with both the instructor and other classmates in an asynchronous environment.
What is asynchronous learning?
Asynchronous learning is the interaction between an instructors and students that occurs during unscheduled time periods and is usually mediated through an electronic discussion board that allows participants to post and respond to ideas, comments, and/or opinions at different times.
The asynchronous format has been in existence for quite some time; however, new research and strategies suggest that this approach can enable learners to increase knowledge and skills through self-teaching when they are prepared and motivated to learn.
What is distance learning?
Distance learning is the use of technology to allow students to be geographically separated from the classroom and still attend training. Distance learning comes in various formats: Synchronous learning, Asynchronous learning, and Self-Paced learning.
What are the benefits of distance learning?
Distance learning offers several benefits to you as the learner.
– You are able to complete training requirements at a time and place convenient to you. – No travel required! TDYs, TDAs, Deployments … you do enough traveling. Stay home and get the required training from your workspace. – Research shows that adults learn best when they are motivated to learn and are allowed to self- teach at a pace of their choosing.
Is distance learning right for me?
If you are a learner who prefers ‘doing’ and only requires little help while performing tasks, then distance learning is right for you. Whether it’s instructor-led or self-paced, the course material is at your pace and help is on-demand.
Is there a cost for distance learning courses?
There is no cost for distance learning courses taken through the JDTC’s Virtual Campus. This is in comparison to the travel costs and time away from the office when attending resident training courses.

Will I get credit for completing distance learning courses?
You will receive credit for distance learning courses completed on the JDTC’s Virtual Campus. When applicable, you will be granted Joint Training credit as well.
Are the Distance Learning (DL) courses accredited?
No. The JDTC does not offer any courses that have been accredited through a regional accreditation authority.
How will I know if I got credit for a completed course?
Upon completion of the course, you will be issued a certificate of completion.
Are there any prerequisites to distance learning courses?
Yes. There are a few things that must be in place before you can even gain access to any distance learning course. – You must have a FINAL US SECRET clearance. This is per government regulations dealing with the classification of all GCCS-J related training. – You must have access to a SIPRNET connected computer. For online instructor-led courses, you must also meet the following requirements: – You must have supervisor approval prior to taking the course since you will be required to spend up to 8 hours each week while still at your duty station. – You must complete course ADM1000 - Virtual Campus –Welcome

Who do I contact if I need technical assistance?
Depending on your technical issues, you’ll need to contact one of the following for further assistance: System related issues on your computer or with your network (Windows Log-In, Email, etc.) – Contact your local System Administrator(s). Issues with the Learning Management System (LMS); contact the JDTC IMI Department.
