Roots Music on February 18, 2011
Although the people of Niger and the United States are separated by great distances, they are united by a rich history in music. In honor of Black History Month and the longstanding friendship between the people of United States and Niger, the American Cultural Center hosted an evening of music highlighting the roots of these sounds. Performances by Mamane Sani Abdoulaye and Etran Finatawa covered a diverse range of styles – from blues, soul, and gospel to rock, R&B, folk, and even traditional forms of music.
