The VA Sierra Pacific Network is one of 21 Veterans Integrated Service Networks in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). It serves 1.2 million Veterans residing in northern and central California, northern Nevada, Hawaii, the Philippines, and several Pacific Islands including Guam and American Samoa. The seven VA medical centers/health systems listed below manage a total of thirty-six care sites:

In fiscal year (FY) 2004 more than 328,000 Veterans residing in the Network were enrolled in the system. The Network provides health care services to more than 221,000 Veterans with an operating budget of $1.1 billion. The Network operates 589 hospital beds, 844 nursing home beds, 100 domiciliary beds and 89 Psychiatric Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program beds. Nearly 2.2 million outpatient visits are provided each year.

The VA Sierra Pacific Network is affiliated with several medical schools including University of California, San Francisco; University of California, Davis; Stanford University; University of Hawaii; and University of Nevada, Reno.

The VA Sierra Pacific Network received 11 VHA Clinical Programs of Excellence (out of a total of 65 Programs nationwide). These prestigious awards were bestowed by an independent panel of experts who evaluated the quality of services.

With the largest VHA research program, the Network supports more than 500 investigators who make substantial contributions that benefit everyone. San Francisco VA Medical Center and VA Palo Alto Health Care System rank first and third, respectively, in research grant funding.
