Policy Division



The Policy Division has the overall responsibility for developing wildland fire management program policies, strategies, plans and processes for the Department.  These are developed using the best available science and emerging technologies, direction and guidance found in statute and federal regulation, Departmental plans, policies, and statements. The Division ensures that the Department's wildland fire management activities are consistent with all applicable laws, regulations and the Department's strategic plan in collaboration with the bureaus within the Department, other federal agencies and non-federal partners and stakeholders (including states, tribes, counties, cities, and non-governmental organizations).  The Policy Division works collaboratively with all bureaus within the Department with wildland fire management responsibilities, as well as other federal and non-federal agencies and partners in the development, implementation and dissemination of wildland fire management policy, doctrine, standards, and guidance.
