VISAS

Non-Immigrant Visas

How to Apply

Please confirm whether or not you need to apply for a visa. If you are a  citizen of any other Visa Waiver Program participating country, or already hold a valid U.S. visa, you may not need to apply for a new U.S. visa.  Generally Gambian citizens need to apply for a visa to the United States.

If you do need to apply for a nonimmigrant visa, please follow the steps below.

To apply for a Non-Immigrant Visa:

STEP 1.  Submit the online Form DS-160 application at: https://ceac.state.gov/GENNIV. Print out your confirmation page. The DS-160 is mandatory for all applicant interviews.

STEP 2.  Pay the Visa fee at any Eco or Reliance Bank branch.

Note: If you pay your visa application fee in cash at Ecobank or Reliance Bank, then you can schedule your interview within four hours of payment. If you pay online at Ecobank or Reliance Bank, then you can schedule as soon as 3:00pm on the first banking day following the date of payment.

STEP 3.  Schedule the appointment by either calling +220-380-0000 or +220-776-8017 or by going to http://www.ustraveldocs.com.

You will need three pieces of information in order to schedule your interview appointment:

  • Your passport number
  • The ten (10) digit barcode number from your DS-160 confirmation page
  • Your fee payment receipt purchase date (due to banking regulations, this date may be later than the date you actually paid your fee - the tables on this page can help you determine your receipt purchase date)

Important Note:

For Ecobank receipt:   You should enter the "Payment Reference Number" shown on the receipt.

For Reliance Bank receipt, your fee receipt number includes a "pipe" character ("|"), as shown in this example: VT|01-Mar-2011|00018. Please be sure to include the "pipe" character when you type in your fee receipt number. The pipe character is above the Enter key on U.S. and U.S. International keyboards. On a British keyboard, the pipe character is on the left, between the Shift and Z keys. This receipt number verifies your payment and allows you to schedule your visa interview. You also need your passport number in order to schedule your visa interview.

STEP 4.  Visit the U.S. Embassy in Banjul on the date and time of your visa interview. You will need to bring a printed copy of your appointment letter, your DS-160 confirmation page, one recent photograph, your current and all old passports, and the original visa fee payment receipt. Applications without all of these items will not be accepted.

STEP 5.  Approved visas are returned at the U.S. Embassy where you applied. The consular staff will inform you as to when to return to pick up your visa.

Media Note - Visa Processing Fees to Change on April 13, 2012

Effective April 13, 2012, the Department of State will adjust visa processing fees.  The fees for most nonimmigrant visa applications and Border Crossing Cards will increase, while all immigrant visa processing fees will decrease.
