National Weather Festival

NSSL and other NOAA Weather Partners in Norman, Oklahoma host the annual National Weather Festival each fall. The festival has weather research vehicles, including mobile radars on display, a storm chaser car show and tons of activities. Check here for dates.

AMS WeatherFest

When funding permits, NSSL hosts a booth at the annual American Meteorological Society (AMS) “WeatherFest”—a free giant science fair focused on weather. Thousands of visitors of all ages have visited the booth to learn about severe weather safety, NSSL's research, and careers in meteorology.

NEA

The NOAA Employees Association (NEA) is a non-profit organization which provides social interaction for employees from the National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL), the Storm Prediction Center (SPC), the NWS Norman Forecast Office (WFO OUN), Radar Operations Center (ROC), Warning and Decision Training Branch (WDTB), Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies (CIMMS), and their families and friends. NEA enhances the work environment and conducts community service activities that support the local area.

NEA sells photos, t-shirts and other gear to support these activities. Check out the online store.

Exploratorium

A team from NSSL were NOAA Scientists in Residence at the world-renowned San Francisco's Exploratorium science museum of exploration. The team shared severe storm science and tools with Exploratorium staff and visitors. The partnership was the result of a five-year NOAA educational grant to co-develop interactive exhibits, learning experiences and professional development workshops for the learning institution.
