Tester statement on nomination of Sally Jewell to be next Interior Secretary
(U.S. SENATE) - Senator Jon Tester today released the following statement after the President nominated Sally Jewell to be the next Secretary of the Interior. Jewell, who began her career as an oil engineer, is the CEO of Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI), a leading outdoor equipment company:
"I look forward to meeting with Ms. Jewell to discuss Montana's priorities including responsible energy development, recreation, conservation and Indian Country. Montana needs a leader at Interior who understands our outdoor heritage and the importance of public lands to rural America."
Jewell would replace outgoing Interior Secretary Ken Salazar who has led the department since 2009.
