Career Description

The United States Air Force operates hundreds of medical facilities around the world staffed by some of the best medical professionals available. And while specialists are always in demand, we also need highly skilled and highly competent Aerospace Medical Service specialists to perform multiple medical roles. You'll be taught everything you need to know in order to assist doctors and care for patients — from administering medication and taking vitals to assisting with newborn deliveries and emergency medicine. If you're looking for a career in medicine, this is a great place to start.

Career Tasks

  • Perform technical nursing duties involving the care and treatment of patients including feeding, bathing and moving patients, and measuring and recording vital signs
  • Assemble, operate and maintain medical equipment such as oxygen delivery equipment, intravenous controllers, fetal monitors, suction machines and electrocardiograph recorders
  • Administer medications under the supervision of a physician or a nurse and draw blood samples
  • Perform the routine collection of urine, fecal materials and other bodily secretions for laboratory examination
  • Prepare patients for surgery and perform postoperative monitoring
  • Assist in the delivery and care of newborns
  • Undergo training that will entitle you to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician's examination
