The Blue Campaign to Combat Human Trafficking

You may have seen the press release on our web page regarding the “Blue Campaign to Combat Human Trafficking.” There is also a blog post on the DHS “Leadership Journal” worth checking out on the same topic by Alice Chamberlayne Hill, Senior Counselor to the Secretary.

I think people are becoming more aware of this problem, but I doubt many people know how to spot trafficking activity in their neighborhood.

Here's the URL from the press release for some good information on how to recognize suspicious activity as well as how to report it:

http://www.dhs.gov/files/programs/humantrafficking.shtm

Human trafficking is a despicable practice and I wish Secretary Napolitano and the DHS the best of luck with this campaign.

I am not sure what "the “thin blue line” of law enforcement" is - according to the PR that's where the name of the campaign comes from.

I agree with the previous commenter though: not only the general population will remain clueless as to how they can help with the problem, but also might be too scared to step up.

One way or another, it's good to see positive developments in motion.

That's what the Internet is for, you can quickly find out:
https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Thin_Blue_Line
"The Thin Blue Line is a colloquial term for police and police forces, derived from The Thin Red Line", which in turn, as Wikipedia also tells us, "was a famous military action by the British Army's red-coated 93rd (Highland) Regiment at the Battle of Balaclava on October 25, 1854, during the Crimean War"

Unfortunately it is often those who exploit those who are trafficked who are most likely to know about their existence. This doesn't create a the best atmosphere for reporting such activities.
Asian massage parlors are dotting our American landscape, and many of these girls are there against their will. Yet, with the language barriers, the fears of the girls, and the desires of the American clients, reporting isn't common.
Maybe if we dropped some of the war on drugs the police resources can be freed up to address humanitarian issues such as this one.

It has been widely reported in the media that USCIS is proposing to utilize certain rule-making administrative actions (NPRM procedures) to initiate CIR absent legislative action. Apparently a DRAFT internal memorandum titled "Administrative Alternatives to Comprehensive Immigration Reform" has been circulating. Will anyone on the USCIS Blog Team be able to comment on the authenticity of the memorandum in question? Further, if authentic, when does USCIS propose to initiate the NPRM process and changes to the regulations?

Thank you.

The link to the subject memorandum is listed below:

Senator Grasley from IA is the culprit to make this draft memo about admin fix out this senator made the lives of H1B visa holders hell, by influencing USCIS to make the infamout Jan 19th 2010 Memo whcih makes lot of un necessary and stupid RFEs, This Grasley should never win elections again. How can a confidential draft can get in to the media. this anti immigrant and prtectonist senators should be defeated in next election.

Senator Grassley is working closely with the nativist group NumbersUSA, a member of eugenicist John Tanton’s network of anti-immigrant organizations, in an effort to use the leak of this draft policy memo to destroy any chance of immigration reform that remains this legislative session. The leak came just as Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) proposed a constitutional amendment to revoke birthright citizenship, which could lead to the deportation of citizen children of undocumented parents.

The leak of the draft memo, which was written in April, followed a letter in June from the same group of GOP Senators warning President Obama not to enact administrative reforms in lieu of comprehensive immigration reform. The release of the June letter shows that Grassley and NumbersUSA had the draft memo then and were holding on to it until its release would have maximum political impact.

This political idiots makes the life of innocent families miserable that too Educated people from India. Legal Immigrants who pays tax as good as US citizen and everything legal This idiot Grassley should be defeated in next election.

I am really happy to hear about the Blue Campaign. Hearing some of the stores from around the world breaks my heart. I recently read an article on BBC about some of the crimes against children and its so sad. I hope the Campaign will help address both sides, The Supply and The Demand.

I obviously have lead a sheltered life because I just cannot conceive of a world where any adult would put children at risk for money. Only by the grace of God I have been spared this fate. I am so very thankful that the adults in my life valued me and protected me not just for my own safety but also because it has become almost second nature for me to pass it on. God bless the Blue Campaign.

Some countries are worse than others but that does not mean that it doesn't happen in the more 'civilized' countries. It's just kept a little more secret and underground by those involved in it. No country is immune to this disgusting and filthy problem.

There are no words that I can use here that will aptly represent my feelings about human trafficking. If you take all of the bad things that people do to each other in the world, and put them all into one thing, human trafficking is it.

To put people through what these poor people go through for money, or for any reason, is beyond my comprehension.

To fight for what is right is the best thing to do. We have the right to do so. In whatever situation or solution we may have for this matter, when it comes to saving people's lives, let's just simply do our best. We are our brother's keepers. So, why not support this campaign to combat human trafficking? It may worth it.

The task of ending human trafficking and slavery cannot be simply left to nongovernmental organizations. 10 years ago human trafficking was a little-understood crime that took place in the shadows, now it is a topic of great interest and concern. the u.s. is not just as a destination or transit country for trafficking, but a source country for people held in servitude. it's america's responsibility as the "land of the free" to take the lead in ridding the world of this evil.

Human trafficking has been around from the first time mankind decided that it would be profitable to exploit his fellow man. It will only be eradicated by removing the perceived value of slavery.

Human trafficking and political corruption go hand in hand. This is what I have been learning in my research on human trafficking. In order for this organized illegal activity to continue, there have to be people in the government who are being paid to look the other way. If this is true in Asia, Eastern Europe and other places, doesn't it follow that it must me going on right here as well?

There is evidence of thousands of children working in the sex trade in the UK.

Young women tricked into coming to England, often by boyfriends, are being sold off in auctions at airport coffee shops as soon as they arrive.

They are among the thousands of women brought into the UK to be sex slaves, usually with no idea of their fate. The trade was one of the findings of a BBC News website investigation into slavery in 21st Century England. As the UK marks 200 years since the Parliamentary Act to abolish the slave trade, slavery goes on in another form.

it would be nice to see this come to an end!

At June 11, 2011 at 5:49:00 PM EDT , Anonymous Job Center Plus Army Careers said...

Modern day victims of slavery are often young women from eastern Europe, thinking they are coming to England to work as cleaners or au pairs, only to be forced into prostitution.

The Home Office estimated in 2003 that 4,000 women were trafficked into the UK for sexual exploitation. It is thought the figure may have grown since. Police forces from Cornwall to Northumbria have found themselves having to rescue women and prosecute the traffickers who brought them to England to work as sex slaves.
