The 310th Space Wing, the only space wing in the Air Force Reserve, is located at Schriever Air Force Base, Colo., and has units assigned to Schriever, Peterson and Buckley Air Force Bases in Colorado and Vandenberg AFB, Calif.

Organization
The wing is composed of 16 units, under the 310th Operations Group and 310th Mission Support Group, that support various military and other government organizations including, but not limited to, the Department of Commerce, Air Force Space Command, Air Combat Command, Air Force Cyber Command, the Space Innovation and Development Center, 14th Air Force, 50th Space Wing, 21st Space Wing, and 460th Space Wing.
6th Space Operations Squadron at Schriever AFB, Colo., operates Defense Meteorological Satellite Program satellites in support of the Department of Defense, Department of Commerce and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
7th Space Operations Squadron at Schriever AFB, Colo., operates the Midcourse Space Experiment satellite, AFSPC's only space-based space surveillance asset. 7th SOPS also performs a booster launch operations mission, providing telemetry collection/data relay for Delta II launches. The squadron will soon operate the Multi-Mission Space Operations Center, a one-of-a-kind satellite operations center focused on rapidly fielding cutting-edge space technologies for warfighters.
8th Space Warning Squadron at Buckley AFB, Colo., operates the Space Based Infrared System through telemetry, tracking and control of the Defense Support Program satellites and sensors providing missile warning, missile defense, technical intelligence, battle space characterization, and nuclear detonation information to warfighters and national leadership.
9th Space Operations Squadron at Vandenberg AFB, Calif., operates the Joint Space Operations Center, or JSpOC, performing combat operations, plans, strategy and intelligence assessments enabling the commander, Joint Functional Component Command, Space to command and control space forces by providing worldwide space effects to combatant commanders.
14th Test Squadron at Schriever AFB, Colo., augments the 17th Test Squadron by providing independent assessments of space system operational effectiveness and suitability. It provides subject-matter experts and surge capability for AFSPC testing.
19th Space Operations Squadron at Schriever AFB, Colo., supports the 2nd Space Operations Squadron in the launch, sustainment, operations and modernization of the GPS satellite constellation, providing highly accurate 24-hour navigation, timing and nuclear detonation information to users worldwide.
310th Communications Flight at Peterson AFB, Colo., augments The AFSPC Network Operations and Security Center operational crews providing command and control and situational awareness for AFSPC communications systems and assets.
310th Aerospace Medicine Flight at Buckley AFB, Colo., provides medical support to the 310th Space Wing warfighter. They provide full Aerospace Medicine and Physical Exams services to both Buckley and Schriever Air Force bases.
310th Mission Support Squadron at Buckley AFB, Colo., is made up of the 310th Military Personnel Flight, the 710th Communications Flight, and the 310th Services Flight which provides mission support to the 310th Operations Group and the 310th Space Wing.
310th Operations Support Flight at Schriever AFB, Colo., provides operations support and applicable program oversight to the 310th Operations Group space operations squadrons. It delivers relevant space operations instructor training, cutting edge weapons and tactics applications, and actionable intelligence maximizing the mission effectiveness of the 310th Space Wing.
310th Security Forces Squadron at Schriever AFB, Colo., and the 710th Security Forces Squadron at Buckley AFB, Colo., each provide trained, equipped, combat-ready security forces for DoD, U.S. Air Force, Air Force Space Command and Air Force Reserve Command taskings supporting peacetime, contingency and wartime operations. Unit personnel are trained to deploy and perform integrated base defense, law enforcement, force protection, resource protection and physical security operations at locations worldwide, as needed.
380th Space Control Squadron at Peterson AFB, Colo., is chartered to augment the 16th Space Control Squadron in the execution of an emerging, globally deployed hybrid counterspace/electronic warfare support mission. The 380th SPCS monitors satellite communications links to intercept and geolocate SATCOM jammers, sources of electromagnetic interference or other signals of interest for prosecution as targets or other higher authority action.
710th Communications Flight at Buckley AFB, Colo., provides the highest level of communications support directly to all 310th SW agencies and associate units, and also interfaces with the local host communications squadrons at Buckley, Schriever, and Peterson Air Force bases to ensure such support is successful.
Detachment 1, 8th Space Warning Squadron performs satellite command and control on the Space Based Infrared System and provides strategic and tactical warning of missile and space launches to combatant commanders and warfighters worldwide.
Headquarters Reserve National Security Space Institute in Colorado Springs, Colo., supports the NSSI, a joint mission school that educates and trains our National Security Space Community in space power application for joint warfighting. Members of the RNSSI provide surge capability through specialized traditional Reserve expertise, course research, curriculum development, instruction and execution of the Reserve Space Professional Development Program.

UNIT HISTORY
The 310th has a long and rich heritage dating back to World War II when it began as the 310th Bombardment Group on March 15, 1942. The unit flew B-25 "Mitchell" bombers in support of operations in Tunisia, Sicily, Italy, Sardinia, France, Austria and Yugoslavia during the war. The group perfected "skip bombing" techniques against bridge, airborne, rail yard and marshaling yard targets. The group was inactivated on Sept. 12, 1945.
The 310th Bombardment Wing was reactivated in 1952 and trained on the B-29 Superfortress before converting to the B-47 Stratojet. The wing deployed to Royal Air Force station Upper Heyford, England from March 10 - June 8, 1955, and to RAF Greenham Common, England, from Oct. 3, 1956 - Jan. 19, 1965, before being deactivated in June 1965.
On Sept. 1, 1991, the 310th Training and Test Wing was activated for a short time at Vandenberg AFB, Calif., and was responsible for initial intercontinental ballistic missile operations crew training and ICBM operational testing. It was inactivated July 1, 1993.
The 310th designator was again activated with the stand up of the 310th Space Group Sept. 4, 1997. The group was created from its original squadron, the 7th SOPS, and has grown rapidly with the realization of the critical role the Air Force Reserve can play in the future of space operations.
The 310th Space Group was re-designated the 310th Space Wing on March 7, 2008. The wing has been tremendously successful in its initial missions and has been tasked with reviewing future Regular Air Force and Reserve partnerships in space to identify potential areas where the Air Force Reserve can add value.
