Cat Ba langurs need your help! Join U.S. Ambassador Shear when he announces the winner of the Cat Ba langur mural contest. You will be one of the first to meet the winning artist and see the design that will be recreated at the entrance to Cat Ba National Park. Also, Rick Passaro, director of the Cat Ba Langur Conservation Project, will explain how you can help bring this beautiful animal back from the brink of extinction!

Have you ever wondered about the regional programs and organizations the United States works with in SE Asia?  If so, please join us at the American Center on Monday, September 10 to discuss with Mr. Christian Castro, the Director of the State Department’s Office of Multilateral Affairs for the East Asia-Pacific region, about U.S. engagement in Southeast Asia.  There are many ways the U.S. engages: through ASEAN, the ASEAN Regional Forum, the East Asian Summit, and, especially, the Lower Mekong Initiative.  All of this engagement has the goal of promoting peace, security, and prosperity in the region.  Come learn more and bring your questions as well!

American Studies Forum: U.S. Elections and Constitution

The American Center cordially invites you to the fourth meeting of the American Studies Forum on the topic of “U.S. Elections and Constitution.” Speakers include Professor Nguyen Dang Dung, a leading expert in constitutional law from Vietnam National University’s School of Law, and Mr. Nguyen Canh Binh, Director of the AlphaBooks.

The presentation and subsequent discussion will explore the U.S. Constitution’s creation, its characteristics, its evolution and how it has remained relevant from 1789 until the present.  It will also discuss the how the Constitution protects American citizens’ right to vote in elections.
This talk is in Vietnamese and light refreshments will be served afterwards.

Saturday, September 22, 2012 marks the 150th anniversary of President Lincoln's now famous Emancipation Proclamation.  This speech announced to all Americans that he would order the emancipation of all slaves living in the United States.  In honor of this historic occasion, the American Center seeks to raise awareness that modern slavery still exists worldwide and to highlight that the United States has a long history of working to end it, both at home and abroad.  Come to the AC on September 26 to join the fight to end modern slavery today and learn how you can take action.
