Network Identifier Guidelines Posted: JAN 6, 2012 (Boulder, CO) — PSCR posts network identifier guidelines for the Public Safety 700 MHz Demonstration Network with the intent of replicating the network identifier architecture required for a nationwide public safety network.

PSCR Staff Receive U.S. Commerce Bronze Medal Award: DEC 20, 2011 (Washington, D.C.) — Two PSCR program staff received a group Bronze Medal Award from the U.S. Department of Commerce.

PSCR Staff Receives U.S. Commerce Bronze Medal Award: DEC 1, 2010 (Washington, D.C.) — Dr. Carolyn Ford received a Bronze Medal Award for Scientific/Engineering Achievement from the U.S. Department of Commerce.

The PSCR Program’s Dereck Orr was the Featured Speaker at the FCC Speaker Series Event Featuring NIST/OLES: AUG 31, 2010 (Washington, D.C.) — Orr, NIST/OLES’s Program Manager for Public Safety Communications, discussed NIST/OLES’s role in improving public safety communications. The FCC/PSHSB/ERIC event focused on NIST’s role in developing and implementing standards for public safety communications and its partnership with ERIC.

PSCR finishes its latest round of audio and video quality testing: AUG 20, 2010 (Boulder, CO) — The second round of fireground digital radio audio quality tests (Press) evaluated noise pollution that interrupts communications on the fireground. The audio tests will quantify what improvements have been made and target where efforts are needed to further improve audio quality for public-safety communications. The video quality testing investigated the interaction of target (item to recognize) size, motion, and lighting on the ability to recognize a given target in the video stream in a real-time application. Publication of the audio and video quality test results are expected in the coming months.

PSCR hosted a session in the Interoperable Communications and Information Sharing track at the National UASI Conference: JUN 20-24, 2010 (New Orleans, LA) — The session, “What's New at PSCR?," provided updates on our latest work in P25 standards/CAP, 700-MHz broadband, video quality, and audio quality.

International Association of Fire Fighters Conference: NOV 9 – 11, 2009 (Los Angeles, CA) — At the IAFF's Twentieth Symposium on the Occupational Health and Hazards of the Fire Service, PSCR presented an overview of its background noise testing for firefighting environments. Public Safety VoIP Presentation: OCT 27 – 30, 2009 (Mobile, AL) — At the 3rd Annual Gulf Coast Technology Summit, PSCR presented its work on BSI, a VoIP method for interconnecting public safety communications bridges.
