Ambassador Beyer delivers his speech

On Thursday, April 28, 2011 Ambassador Donald S. Beyer visited the Rudolf Steiner School in the Canton of Aargau and gave a lecture for the students of the school. He talked about U.S. culture, the strengths of the country, and of the challenges it will face in the future. After the lecture, the students had the opportunity to ask questions.

The Ambassador stressed that the strengths of the U.S. were, among other things, its democratic tradition, its hardworking people, and typical American openness. Moreover, the U.S. enjoys a fortunate geographical position; he explained that Americans assume the responsibility to help less fortunate peoples and countries.

The U.S., however, also faces many challenges – the Ambassador discussed the struggle to agree on a Federal Budget, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, unemployment and education for people with low incomes.

Ambassador Beyer also told the students of his time as campaign worker and companion of President Obama and explained that he always perceived the President as balanced and confident person having a great deal of inner strength.
