CAMEO Training

Each year, thousands of first responders and emergency planners are trained to use programs in the CAMEO software suite in classes led by more than 100 CAMEO-certified instructors in the U.S. and France.

CAMEO training is offered by many different groups, including:

  • Department of Homeland Security, which offers Weapons of Mass Destruction training for first responders through the Louisiana State University's National Center for Biomedical Research and Training.
  • University of California at Davis Extension, which provides two online CAMEO suite training courses.

To find out about these and other upcoming CAMEO suite classes, go to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) CAMEO site's CAMEO Training Calendar.

CAMEO Instructor Certification

With so many CAMEO users nationwide, it is beyond the capabilities of NOAA and EPA to provide training for everyone. However, we have developed a certification program for trainers to ensure that qualified trainers are available.

Anyone interested in becoming a certified trainer may take the certification exam. Go to the EPA Instructors' Corner for more information about certification and to see a list of certified instructors.

CAMEO in Schools

Several schools are using the CAMEO programs to teach students about emergency response and planning. For example,

  • Salem State College offers graduate and undergraduate geography courses that use MARPLOT and CAMEOfm. In the graduate course, students develop integrated MARPLOT-CAMEOfm systems for communities.
  • University of Connecticut offers an undergraduate course that uses CAMEOfm, CAMEO Chemicals, and ALOHA to look at mathematical modeling in the environment.
  • Massachusetts Maritime Academy and University of Pittsburgh also offer classes that use CAMEO programs.
