California Water Science Center
This webcam is located about 1.6 miles upstream of the USGS stream-gaging station on MISSION CR AT ROCKY NOOK PARK AT SANTA BARBARA (see map). This station provides continuous monitoring of certain river conditions such as flow and stage. The webcam provides valuable visual information to first-responders and area residents to evaluate real-time conditions in the creek channel during storms. The visual record of flooding and potential debris flows also provides valuable research data for the USGS. |

*Gage records are provisional and subject to revision. |
River Flow (Discharge) | Stage (Gage Height) |
2013-02-15 04:30 PST | 4.10 ft³/s (graph) | 0.11 feet (graph) |
Debris Flow Potential About 8,000 acres in the Mission Creek canyon were burned in the Jesusita Fire of May 2009. The fire removed most of the hillside vegetation resulting in a high risk for flash floods or debris flows during storms. See additional research from the USGS Landslide Hazards Program, entitled Monitoring post-fire flash floods and debris flows. |
USGS Gaging Station This houses the electronic equipment which continuously records certain river and environmental parameters. These data are transmitted in real time to the USGS National Water Information System (NWIS). |
