The United Kingdom overall benefits from generally low crime rates. Over the past 5 years the level of crime in Scotland, including serious crimes, has declined by approximately 20%; however, the number of victims of homicide rose to 97 in 2010/11, an increase of 15 victims over the previous year. As with any major metropolitan or unfamiliar area, Americans are urged to be cautious and aware of their surroundings at all times.
