Public Transportation

The Wilmington VAMC is conveniently served by the DART First State public transportation system. Our facility is located on routes 6 and 19. Check www.dartfirststate.com external link will open in new window for schedules.

Shuttles and Vans

Image of bus The Disabled American Veteran's Transportation Network provides free transportation for veterans from Southern Delaware. For questions concerning this service or to arrange transportation, call (302) 633-5414.

The Wilmington VAMC operates vans and shuttles to transport veterans to and from our various CBOC locations in New Jersey. Wilmington VAMC also provides a special Philadelphia shuttle for patients who require services at the Philadelphia VAMC. For more information about this service or to make arrangements for transport, call your primary care team.

A local shuttle service is available to take passengers to and from patient and visitor parking. It is located at the main patient entrance and is available from 7:00 a.m - 5:30 p.m., Monday - Friday.

Smoking Policy

For the comfort and safety of our patients, smoking is only allowed in two designated areas of the Medical Center:

  • Smoking shelter located directly outside the Emergency Department
  • Smoking shelter located adjacent to the entrance of the Community Living Center

Lost and Found

Lost and Found is located near the Emergency Department at the Police Department. You may also contact them at (302) 994-2511 ext. 5280.

Security

The Wilmington VAMC has a Police Service. Our officers provide 24-hour patrols of the facility and parking lots. For general police assistance, please dial extension 5280. In case of an emergency, dial 911. Report all suspicious or criminal activity, vehicle accidents, and personal property losses while on the facility grounds to the VA Police as soon as possible.

Because the VA Medical Center is federal property, all persons and bags are subject to search. In addition, no weapons, alcohol, or illegal drugs are permitted.

Veterans Canteen Service (Food, Beverages, and Retail Store)

The cafeteria and retail store are located on the second floor of the main hospital in Building 1. A vending area is located on the first floor in the area between the main hospital elevators and the clinic elevators. The vending area is open twenty-four hours a day.

Religious Services

The chapel is located on the Ground floor of the main hospital Building 1. Services are scheduled as follows:

Protestant Service: Sunday at 9:00am
Catholic Mass: Weekdays at 4:00pm
Saturday at 4:15pm
Sunday at 10:00am

 

Phone Service

  • Courtesy Phones - Phones for making in-house calls are conveniently located throughout the hospital.
  • Pay Phones - Two pay phones are available near the main entrance of the Clinical Addition.
  • Patient Phones - Convenient bedside telephones are available to all acute and extended care patients. Upon admission, veterans will be assigned their own telephone number for convenient calling to friends and loved ones.

ATM

An ATM machine is available at the facility. The machine is conveniently located in the Emergency Department.
