Principal's Message

Dear Parents:

On behalf of the EC Killin Elementary family, it is with great pleasure that we welcome you to our website. Our motto is Children are Special. We have dedicated ourselves to our Mission and Guiding Principles which you can access via link within our website. We also believe that it takes a village to raise and educate a child. Therefore, we welcome you to support our school by volunteering in your child’s classroom, on our school-wide committees, Parent Teacher Organization PTO, School Advisory Council SAC, or the Continued School Improvement process CSI. Our school community works very closely together to ensure our students are empowered to successfully, live and work in a global world.

Killin Elementary School has Sure Start SS through fifth grade. We have a population of approximately 600 students; we have a staff of 29 classroom teachers and 24 resource specialists. They include (1) Art, (1) Physical Education Teacher PE, (1) Music Teacher, (2) Host Nation Language and Culture Teachers, (1) Information Specialist, (1) English as a Second Language Teachers ESL, (1) Nurse, (1.5) Teachers of the Learning Impaired LI, (1) Teacher of the Communication Impaired CI, (2) Part-time Assessors Language and Communication, (2) Counselors, (1) Part-time Psychologist,  (1) Gifted Education Teacher,  (2.5) Literacy Support Specialists (LSS), (.5) Math Support Specialist (MSS), (1.5) Foreign Language in the Elementary School (FLES), and (1) Educational Technologist. In addition to the resource specialists, we have (1) Administrative Technologist. (AT) (1) Principal, (1) Assistant Principal and a host of dedicated Para-professionals and Office staff to support EC Killin Elementary School.

Killin Elementary School is nestled in a little valley at Camp Foster on Okinawa, Japan. We have a lovely playground area that has a beautiful picnic area, with drinking fountains and restrooms. This is a common area for morning line-up, recess, fire drills and evacuation procedures. In addition to the large area in the back of EC Killin, we also have two beautiful playground areas for our early childhood programs. EC Killin is a beautiful campus that has five separate buildings.

Killin Elementary is a warm and very inviting community, with exceptional programs, supportive parents and community members that cooperatively work to ensure success for all students. Our dedicated staff continually strives to provide quality and equity coupled with high expectations for all of our students. We are consistently challenging our students and ourselves to strive for excellence. Our continued school improvement process is ongoing, and it involves, school, community and home. We look forward to meeting and working with you and your child.
