U.S. Embassy Joins City Red Cross of Skopje for Community Blood and Food Drive

September 7, 2012

The Embassy of the United States will join the City Red Cross of Skopje to host a major blood donation and food charity event on September 10, 2012.  Public donations will be accepted from 10:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., and the event will take place at the visitor parking lot in front of the U.S. Embassy.   Ambassador Paul Wohlers and the Secretary General of the Macedonian Red Cross, Sait Saiti, will welcome the event in a joint statement in the afternoon.

This event is part of a worldwide initiative proposed by President Barack Obama to honor the victims of 9/11 through a global day of service.  The goal is to bring people together from all religions, ethnicities and races to focus on a common cause.

The aim of the charity event is to help the Red Cross to replenish blood supplies and to help families with food and other necessities for the winter months ahead.   It will also help the Red Cross establish a greater network of donors in Macedonia to ensure that the blood supply will be sufficient to meet demand into the future.

By participating in this event, blood donors and those who donate non-perishable food items will be able to contribute in a meaningful way to a campaign designed to help those in need.  The U.S. Embassy and the Skopje Red Cross hope you can join us in this action on September 10th, and that your support for the Red Cross will continue throughout the year.

Enclosed tents will be set up in the parking area in front of the Embassy, so the event will occur rain or shine.
