Ambassador Wohlers Opens Defense Bar Training Program

April 20, 2012

United States Ambassador Paul D. Wohlers will deliver remarks at the official opening of the Macedonia Defense Bar Training Program on April 20, 2012.  This will be the first in a series of courses intended to provide basic skills to defense attorneys throughout Macedonia for them to practice in the new adversarial system that is being introduced through the new Criminal Procedure Code.  These trainings, which are implemented through the American Bar Association and the Macedonian Bar Association, will provide practical hands on experience covering all aspects of criminal trials from plea bargaining, through opening statements, direct and cross examination to closing arguments. The classes are limited to 20 lawyers at a time so that the participants will have an opportunity to practice and be critiqued in various phases of the trial.

Media are invited to cover the remarks of Ambassador Wohlers at the opening of the training at 09:30 a.m. on Friday, April 20, at the Journalists Club in Skopje.
