NIVs for Children

Q: Can children travel alone?

A: If an applicant is 15 years of age or younger, they must be accompanied by one or both parents. If an applicant is 15 years of age or younger and going on a school trip, they may be accompanied by a school chaperone/teacher or by their parents.

Q: Do children need a visa?

A: Yes. All Indonesians need a visa to travel to the U.S., every Indonesian, no matter how young, needs a visa in his or her own passport.

Q: Do children pay the application fee?

A: Yes, they do.

Q: Do children need to schedule an online appointment?

A: Yes, they will need to schedule an NIV appointment through our website in the same manner as their parents. Parents should schedule the family as a group. Each applicant must have his/her own appointment. One appointment per applicant. A husband and wife cannot share one appointment, nor can a parent and child share one appointment.

Q: Do all children have to come in person for their appointment?

A: No. Children aged 13 and younger, i.e. who have not reached their 14th birthday, do not have to come for their appointment, their parents/legal guardian must appear for them. Their parents must bring their childrens’ passports, applications, fee receipts, photographs and birth certificates. Generally parents must already have a valid NIV.
