American Citizen Services unit is committed to providing information and assistance to U.S. citizens visiting or living in Kenya.

Appointments are available for:

Information on acquisition of U.S. citizenship by a child born abroad

Please be sure that you only make an appointment with us for a service that we actually offer.  A list of services that we do and do not offer is available here.  A key point is that we cannot discuss visas in the American Citizen Services Unit. 

Also, please familiarize yourself with the required documents and forms before your American Citizen Services appointment.  This will reduce the chance that you will need a second appointment.  To learn more about the documents required for your particular appointment visit here.

Dual Nationality

The concept of dual nationality means that a person is a citizen of two countries at the same time. Each country has its own citizenship laws based on its own policy.Persons may have dual nationality by automatic operation of different laws rather than by choice. For example, a child born in a foreign country to U.S. citizen parents may be both a U.S. citizen and a citizen of the country of birth.  For more information, please visit the Department of State Travel site.

Emergency Cases

Emergency cases are accommodated on a walk-in basis on Mondays between 8am and 10am, or by appointment on any other weekday (call 020 363 6451 for an expedited emergency appointment).  Emergency services include replacement of lost or stolen passports and additional visa pages for those who are urgently leaving the country.  A travel itinerary will be required for emergency services. 

The Day of Your Appointment:

For access to the Consular Section, U.S. Citizens should bring identification, preferably a U.S. passport.  If you have been robbed of your identification, bring a photocopy if possible.  If not, we can work to establish your identity at the gate before you enter.

If you have an appointment, please print and bring your appointment confirmation with you.  It will also contain a checklist of all the documents you will need to bring.  Use the checklist to avoid having to make repeat trips to the Embassy.

Parking

American Citizens Service (ACS) section has a limited number of first come first served parking spaces to offer to our ACS patrons who have booked an appointment.  The security guards must check the appointment list before allowing an ACS patron to park. 

The parking spaces are located on the road that runs along the side of the embassy from U.N. road and ends at Village Market. 

All visitors seeking Consular services including ACS will still need to enter at the main Consular entrance located at the front of the Embassy compound off of UN Avenue.  THERE WILL BE NO ADMITTANCE AT THE GATE ALONG THE ROAD WHERE THE ACS PARKING IS LOCATED.  Please be advised that the walk from the parking area to the Consular entrance is about ten minutes.  There is closer parking for a fee available at the Warwick Center located on UN Ave to the south of the Embassy compound.

Visa Inquiries:

Unfortunately, the American Citizens Services Unit is unable to assist in visa inquiries.  Visa records, both immigrant and non-immigrant, are confidential under the Immigration and Nationality Act, section 222 (f).  Please direct visa inquiries to the appropriate visa unit.  We understand that U.S. citizens often have inquiries on behalf of family members, but per U.S. immigration law, we cannot answer visa inquiries.

Please do not call the ACS unit for any Immigrant or Non-Immigrant visa related questions.
