U.S. Embassy Athens Demonstration Notice

Demonstrations for Thursday, February 14th :

10:00   Parents and Teachers of Music and Art Schools, will gather at Klathmonos Square, march to the Parliament and back to Klathmonos Square where they will hold a

10:00   Retirees will demonstrate at Ethnikis Antistassis Square (across the Athens Town Hall, Omonia Square).

11:00   Anti-authoritarians and the “Coordinating Committee of Solidarity” of the people of Halkidiki will demonstrate outside the State Council offices (47-49 Panepistimiou Street, Omonia Square).

12:00   Students will demonstrate outside the Ministry of Education (37 A. Papandreou Street, Maroussi).

12:00   IKA (Greek Social Security) employees will demonstrate at Syntagma Square.

17:00   Anti-authoritarians and “ad hoc” organizations will demonstrate at “Thissio” electric train station.  A march may follow.

18:00   Anti-authoritarians and “ad hoc” organizations will demonstrate outside Holargos Town Hall at Holargos suburb.

18:00   Students of various university associations will gather at Omonia Square.

Work Stoppages for Thursday, February 14th:

11:00 – 17:00     Blue buses.

 

13:00   Teachers will gather at the Ministry of Education (37 A. Papandreou Str., Marousi)

Remember, even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence without warning. Avoid areas of demonstrations and, if you are within the vicinity of any demonstrations, remain vigilant and exercise caution.

S. Consulate General in Thessaloniki. We strongly recommend that U.S. citizens and nationals traveling to or residing in Greece enroll in the State Department’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).  U.S. citizens and nationals without Internet access may enroll directly with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.  Enrolling signs you up to receive updated information about areas abroad and makes it easier for the U.S. Embassy or Consulate to contact you or your designated contact in case of emergency.
