Principal's Corner

Georgia Watters
Welcome to Our School!

Welcome to Edgren High School, home of the Soaring Eagles at Misawa, Japan. Misawa is also the home of beautiful blue skies in the summer and banks of white fluffy snow in winter. It is a perfect and peaceful place to raise a family, travel and explore. Students living and studying in Misawa have the opportunity to savor the culture, explore new activities, enrich their intellectual abilities, and have fun with their friends.

I am honored to be serving as principal at this performance-driven DoDEA School (grades 7-12, enrollment 490 students). Edgren has a superb world-class, stellar staff who are diverse, dedicated, motivated and efficient in promoting highest student achievement. I certainly would be remiss if I didn’t sincerely thank Mr. Arrington (past principal) for his two years of exemplary service in promoting highest student achievement for our Edgren Eagles.  I also extend my warmest congratulations to him for his promotion as Assistant Superintendent for the Guam District; I wish the best for him and his family as they continue their journey in life.  Looking back at the past, a special recognition is also extended to the previous administrators Michael Johnson and Truly Schramm for establishing a legacy of excellence through partnership and communication in promoting student development for the Edgren Eagles.

Our students at Edgren do extremely well in academics as well as sports and other extracurricular activities.  Our AFJROTC Team was crowned as the World Champions in the academic bowl held in Washington, DC in 2010. Over 87% percent of our graduating seniors attend college.  Our students’ test scores are among the highest in DoDEA, and Edgren students’ behavior and attitudes are exemplary.

I am excited and eager to meet and greet each and every student and parent as they become a family member of this magnificent TEAM.  Upon transitioning, I encourage parents to get involved immediately with their students’ education.  Ensure that some form of homework or studying is accomplished each night.  Talk with your children; ask to see their textbooks; have them explain to you what they are working on. Most importantly, communicate with your students’ teachers, as they are your first line of communication.

Parents and students can check student grades and monitor progress and attendance through the parent and student portals of “GradeSpeed,” GradeSpeed can be accessed through our Eaglenet. Current school events, daily bulletins, news releases, important information, student recognition and teachers’ websites, can be accessed through our Eaglenet site as well.  Each student will be assigned a password to access Eaglenet.

Please consider becoming a member of the Edgren Booster Club.  Parents have raised thousands of dollars to support our students in many different activities.   Edgren could not operate without the support of the Booster Club and our parents.

I look forward to working in partnership with you.

Respectfully,
