Moving to the U.S.

Note: The authoritative sources for information about moving or traveling to the United States are the various agencies of the United States Government that deal with aspects of entry, immigration, and naturalization (eg.the Bureau of Consular Affairs at Department of State, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection at Department of Homeland Security). Information from these sources can be found in the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy Oslo website.

However, many commercial companies not affiliated with the U.S. Government have also compiled useful guides to the immigration and the relocation process. For your convenience, we provide links to some of them below, but please bear in mind that this does not constitute an official endorsement.

  • Foreignborn.com - a site for people who are considering a move to the United States. Includes guides to everything from the immigration process to practical things such as buying or leasing a car, obtaining health insurance and medical care, using banking services, and studying and finding a career.
  • Yahoo: U.S. States - browse links to Internet resources about each of America's states, under topics including cities, education, employment, real estate, health and government.
