CHONBURI, Thailand – Youth Exchange and Study Program (YES) alumni joined the USS George Washington crew and U.S. Embassy staff to welcome 40 students from Pattaya Orphanage on their first visit to the USS George Washington (CVN 73) aircraft carrier at Laem Chabang, Chonburi, on August 8, 2011. State alumni Thanaporn Panitchanok, Yutthakrit Chalermthai, and Naim Laeni volunteered to escort and help students communicate with GW crew during this special visit. The students learned general information on ship operations and GW sailors’ daily routine during an hour long ship tour. The program ended with a fun photo op on the flight deck of this huge carrier. The USS George Washington arrived in Laem Chabang, Thailand, on Saturday, August 6, for a goodwill visit that aims to further enhance the strong historic ties between the United States and the Kingdom of Thailand.
