About the Laboratory:

The clinical laboratory at VA Boston is staffed by over 100 professionals at several sites, including eight full-time pathologists. The main site, located on the West Roxbury campus, is in operation 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Whether your doctors want to check your cholesterol, your blood count, or even a throat culture, the laboratory is the place they turn. The specialty departments include:

clincal chemistry, including immunoassays and drug testing
hematology
microbiology
immunology
blood bank
pathology

Our laboratories are fully accredited by CAP, JCAHO, and AABB (please see links at right).

Specimens:

Should you need to bring any specimen to one of our sites, please remember to label it with your complete name and full social security number.

Going to the lab for bloodwork?

When you visit one of our labs to have your blood drawn, you will be asked to present your VA identification card or other identification that has your full social security number on it. In addition, our phlebotomists are required to ask you to recite your full name and social security number as an extra measure of patient safety.

Please follow any dietary restrictions that your doctor may have requested (such as fasting) for your bloodwork.
