For Federal Agencies
Congress created OGIS to advocate for neither the FOIA requester nor the agency. Instead, OGIS advocates for a fair FOIA process. Agency FOIA shops are contacting OGIS in increasing numbers, asking for assistance with everything from managing communications breakdowns with requesters to providing training to agency FOIA staff.
How can OGIS help your agency’s FOIA shop? We can:
- Review agency FOIA guidelines and make suggestions for expansion and clarification;
- Provide agency-specific FOIA dispute resolution training;
- Help facilitate communications with difficult requesters;
- Provide a collaborative review of agency FOIA processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness;
- Review routine agency FOIA communications to improve compliance with the Plain Writing Act; and
- Much more! If you would like to talk to us about these services, please call us! (202-741-5770) or email us at ogis@nara.gov.
