Representative Alfred Sieminski, shown here in 1950 with his wife and daughter, served in Congress for eight years. A World War II veteran, Sieminski was on active duty in Korea when he was elected to the House in 1950, having volunteered for combat duty after winning the Democratic primary. After leaving Congress, Sieminski worked in the library at the Veterans’ Administration from 1962 until his retirement in 1973.
