On Feb. 14, Ambassador James Thessin presided over the donation of over $1 million in equipment for four strategic municipalities in the northern zone of Paraguay.  Under the Northern Zone Initiative, USAID’s project partner ACDI/VOCA worked with Project CURE (Commission on Urgent Relief & Equipment) to arrange a donation of refurbished medical equipment and new supplies to four health centers in the Northern Zone.  The donation was paid for entirely by Project CURE, a significant leverage by the USAID.

Last year,  USAID and ACDI/VOCA facilitated a visit by Project CURE representatives who visited medical centers in the northern zone to identify their needs and what would be most appropriate for Project CURE to donate.  The donations are destined for medical centers in Capitan Bado, Amambay, San Vicente, San Pedro, Curugyaty, Canindeyu, and Chore, San Pedro.  The equipment consists of metal hospital beds, medical furniture, x-ray machines, specialized medical equipment, and disposable supplies like syringes, gloves and masks.
