Qadisiyah

Al-Qādisiyah province (also known as ad-Diwaniyah), is home to the historic town of Al-Qādisiyyah, site of the eponymous battle. It was there in 636 AD the Caliph Umar defeated the forces of the Persian Sassanid Empire, bringing Islam to all of modern Iraq and Iran. Agriculture is at the core of the province’s economy, which is growing, and Qadisiyah is strategically located to be a central point in north-south commercial traffic.

PRT Qadisiyah is located in the provincial capital of ad-Diwaniyah. The team is led by a State Department Foreign Service Officer and is comprised of other State Department employees, as well as detailees from federal agencies including the Department of Agriculture, the Army Corps of Engineers and USAID, as well as a military support element. The PRT focuses on building local capacity in governance and rule of law, economic development, and public health.
